David Freese is an American baseball player who plays third base for the Los Angeles Dodgers of MLB. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the ninth round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft, but has since played with several other teams including the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Born David Richard Freese on the 28th day of April 1983, the baseball player was raised in the St. Louis metropolitan area located in Wildwood, Missouri. He developed a keen interest in baseball from an early age and was a huge Cardinals fan. He then got his start in the game during his high school years at Lafayette High School located in Wildwood, where he played baseball for the school team.
During his high school career, David made a total of 23 home runs in his senior year with a .533 batting average. The talent star was considered the best layover in the state at the time. He received several scholarship offers from top universities and colleges which he eventually declined and enrolled in the University of Missouri where he studied computer science.
During the summer of his freshman year, David took a job with the Rockwood School District Maintenance Department. While there, he watched baseball games in high school, which reminded him of how much he missed the game he loves so much. The player then applied for a spot on the St Louis Community College baseball team. There he was selected to the 2004 All-American team by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Following his impressive performance, his coach Tony Dattoli recommended him to University of South Alabama baseball coach Steve Kittrell, who offered him a spot on his team. He recorded 52 points in 56 games during his junior season in 2005. MLB Career
When MLB was drafted in 2006, David Freese was picked by the San Diego Padres as the 273rd player to be drafted overall. After signing his rookie contract, David played for minor league teams including Eugene Emeralds, Fort Wayne Wizards and Lake Elsinore Storm from 2006 to 2007.
Subsequently, he was traded to St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Jim Edmonds. He then played the 2008 season with the Memphis Redbirds before joining the Cardinals in 2009 to place at third base behind Joe Thurston and Brian Barden. During his first season with the Cardinals, he played in 17 games due to an ankle injury he suffered in practice.
At third base, David had his breakout season in 2011 leading the Cardinals to the World Series championship. He became the tournament’s most valuable player and received the Babe Ruth Award. David was also awarded the National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player award that same year. Thanks to his continuous improvement, the star player was selected to the MLB All-Star Team in 2012 after recording 50 RBIs and 13 rushing homers that season.
The following year, David had a one-year contract extension with the Cardinals. During the season, he had less playing time due to a series of injuries he suffered during the season. The Cardinals also acquired Matt Carpenter to fill his third baseman position. At the end of the season, David was sent to the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim to trade for Fernando Salas.
After spending two seasons with the Angels, David became a free agent in 2015 and signed a $3 million contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was traded by the Pirates to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018 in exchange for Jesus Manuel Valdez.
