Mae's relationship with a former boyfriend named Ian Peach has been the subject of many of their jokes.
The Canadian-British comedian opened up during a stand-up act that they were in the ninth grade and only 13 years old when their romance with Ian started.
Unfortunately, the two dated for only six months until Ian broke up with them over a phone call. Martin added that Ian was with his friends who were all laughing in the background when he called to break up.
Years after the split with Peach, Mae was asked "Why are you gay?" during an interview. At the time, the comedian wasn't expecting such an invasive question and, thus, didn't have a pre-thought sharp reply.
Amid the confusion, Mae answered "Maybe Ian Peach in grade 9" as the possible reason for them becoming gay. However, the magazine misquoted their reply as "Maybe eating a peach in grade 9". This led to massive confusion in the Martin household as their mother wondered if Mae's brother was gay too as he had eaten the same peaches during his childhood.
Besides Ian, Mae was also in a committed relationship in the 2010s. During a performance at the Just For Laughs festival in 2015, the comedian opened up about their recent breakup. Martin revealed that she had recently come out of a serious relationship but didn't disclose the name of her former partner.
