Terri Gowdy Biography
She was born Terri Dillard on September 11, 196. Her parents, Frank and Pat Dillard, raised her in a Christian home.
Her parents were dedicated members of First Baptist Church in their hometown of Spartanburg. Terri understood early on the importance of nurturing a relationship with God. This relationship with God will later influence many of her most important life decisions and the quality of her family.
Terri grew up very pretty and has taken part in various beauty pageants. She was a second runner-up in the Miss South Carolina beauty pageant. She also wore the crown of “Miss Spartanburg”. It seemed like a promising modeling career for young Terri.
Despite her successes in varying beauty, when Terri Gowdy reached a crossroads in her life, she decided to pursue a different career path. She chose to become a teacher instead. She began her teaching career as a teaching assistant. Gowdy is currently an elementary school teacher at Anderson Mill Elementary School in Spartanburg.

One of the most important lessons Terri has learned from Church is that going on purpose is one of the surest paths to success in life. Terri met her husband while attending a youth program at the church. They became friends and soon began dating before eventually getting married in 1989.
Terri built her family and raised her children on the firm Christian faith. Trey once said in an interview that Terri is the “most Christlike person” he has ever known. Nor does she hesitate to boast of her husband’s relationship with God. She reveals that he has a great memory and can quote almost any scripture without referring to the Bible.
The congressman’s wife is also very supportive of his efforts. She has taken a backseat to the media and has firmly held back the home front so Trey can launch a successful legal and political career.
Terri Gowdy’s teaching career also gave her the opportunity to be home and raise the children while her husband was involved in politics. It’s not impossible that Trey wouldn’t have achieved all of his success if he didn’t have a woman like Terri by his side.
It’s worth noting that Terri is nothing new on the political scene, as her father (Frank Dillard), an Army veteran, also served as a councilman for Spartanburg County.
Trey announced his retirement from politics in January 2018. He hopes to spend quality time with his family and start a private practice.

Trey and Terri Gowdy have two children. Watson Gowdy (son) was born in 1983 and Abigail Watson (daughter) was born in 1998.
Watson studied at Clemson University and went to the Washington School of Law. Abigail, on the other hand, was studying at South Carolina University and planning to pursue a law degree. The children are both grown and appear to be following in their father’s footsteps.
Terri claims that as a parent, her faith influenced her children. She admits that her husband taught her children not to make hasty judgments and to think deeply about questions of life and faith.
